Hypnotherapy
I use Hypnotherapy in my psychotherapy practice in Derbyshire, I can also arrange home visits if required.
Hypnosis can be useful in many situations. A recent example…
A client visits, she has a phobia of heights and has been asked to go on a cruise.
Her internal representation of this [her pictures and self talk] creates fear and panic, her unconscious has stored memories of heights being unpleasant and frightening.
To make a change means conditioning those memories, making some changes internally to her representation, her pictures and self talk. Changing her meaning and response to "heights" on the inside will create a change on the outside. She can then go on holiday and have a fabulous time… which she actually did and brought the pictures to prove it!
When working with clients I work with their whole system. I work holistically and together we find the best way for you to change your behaviours. You have everything you need inside of you to be just who you want to be. It's just a case of finding those resources to help you get what you want…
Who would benefit? Anyone who is interested in using hypnosis to ease their emotional or physical condition. Hypnosis can be extrememly useful when working with young people, read this on the BBC.

How will I know if I am hypnotised?
Will Hypnosis work for me?
Generally speaking, everyone is "hypnotisable" if they really want to be. Therefore virtually anyone can achieve successful results using hypnosis as long as they want the result and are committed to their outcome.
How will I know if I am hypnotised?
Some people say, ‘was that it?’, others say that they cant believe how relaxing it can be, some feel lighter and calmer. Its an individual experience and an enjoyable one……you don’t fall asleep, you don’t ‘disappear’, you are more aware, your senses are sharper.
Hypnosis is like trance, only deeper. Trance is something that most of us having been doing all our lives, it’s a natural occurring state. Trance is what happens when you drive your car and arrive at the destination and don’t remember how you got there!
Trance is when you sit and look out of the window and suddenly ‘come round’ and realize that 15 minutes have passed by and you have been daydreaming! Trance is when you become so absorbed in something that time seems to just disappear and you think that you are living the experience, like watching an absorbing movie or reading a wonderful book.
Time can disappear with hypnosis too, your senses become more sensitive and your attention finely tuned, whether the process is directive or non-directive you will find that you have a heightened relationship with your unconscious mind.
Hypnosis is completely safe. You are totally aware and in control at every moment and can terminate the session at any time. Hypnosis is not sleep, nor can you get "stuck" in a state of hypnosis. You cannot be made to do something against your will! Hypnosis is a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable experience.
Hypnosis is a profound state of deep relaxation. Even though you are deeply relaxed you can still focus your attention and discover the most wonderful insights that allow you to create or change behaviours and beliefs. Hypnosis is possibly as old as mankind itself and has been scientifically proven to be of benefit to medicine, dentistry, education and sports improvement.
The unconscious mind is the part of you that attends to all your unconscious processes. It looks after the processes of the body, the heart beating, the lungs inflating and deflating, the circulatory system, the kidneys etc etc This is the part also that looks after the belief system of you and your behaviors. It's like your ‘hard drive’ and sometimes its useful to clear some clutter that is outdated and no longer appropriate for you to hold on to. Sometimes its useful to do a defrag, just like on the computer.
The conscious mind makes the supper, washes your face, notices colours, textures, everyday stuff and this is filtered through the unconscious mind to create our reality and experience. If we want to change our response to what happens around us it's useful to ask the unconscious mind to help change our internal representations. This is where hypnosis helps, because we communicate with the unconscious mind.
